Jackie Stevenson’s work is an interpretation of the effects of light and weather on northern landscapes, mainly in the more remote areas of Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland. The images she creates are evocative of a particular place and atmosphere, rather than purely representational.
The paintings are mixed media, built up in layers using collage, sometimes using gesso as a surface and stretching the boundaries of watercolour by combining it with acrylic paint and inks as well as oil pastels. Creating texture and atmosphere in the work is central, resulting in some aspects of the paintings becoming quite abstracted, although still retaining the original elements of the landscape.
Jackie is a Scottish artist who graduated from Glasgow School of Art before going on to complete a post-graduate teaching certificate. She taught art part-time for a number of years before opening her own studio and gallery in Hertfordshire, running exhibitions and workshops there. Jackie now lives in the North East of England where she enjoys the open spaces of the Northumberland countryside and coast.
She has exhibited widely in galleries and exhibitions across the UK, including the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in London.
