Blyth in Sight
Blyth’s tall ship “Williams II” is a 100 year old Baltic Trader, it is going to recreate the original voyage of Captain William Smith who discovered the first land in Antarctica in 1819 sailing from Blyth in a similar vessel. “Williams II” is almost exactly the same hull size and configuration as the original “Williams”. After being restored by local trainees and apprentices they will then be re-acting the voyage, this will take place in 2019, exactly 200 years after the original event.
The painting depicts “Williams II” in full sail approaching the mouth of the River Blyth, her home port.
